As my mentor always teach us that every style of martial arts has their own range of fighting. here we are training in and understanding about different kind of purpose for practicing martial arts. for example practicing sports Taekwondo, karate, judo highly focused on sports based techniques and getting points in the tournaments.
on the other side combat sports like Muay Thai, kickboxing, wushu, thaiboxing, k1 , MMA are full contact and hard hitting combat sports which is fought in between competitors of same weight, under the rule and regulation having a referee inside the ring/cage
but the survival in the street against opponent bigger then you, may he has weapons in his hand, or may have multiple attacker. with the intention of harming you or robbing you having no rules and regulation and also no referee to stop the fight, it is only about surviving and going back home safely to your family.
